Michigan Medicine is pleased to offer our patients on-line computer access to portions of their medical record through the web portal. If you would like access to this service you must complete an on-line request and agree to these terms and conditions. is not for Emergencies. allows patients to access their medical records and to communicate with UM concerning non-urgent matters. should NEVER be used for urgent health issues. In the event of a medical emergency, go to the nearest emergency room or dial 9-1-1.

Access and Use of, your Personal User ID and Password, and Personal E-mail

Access and use of is voluntary. If you choose to use, UM will assign you an activation code. You will then be required to create a unique User ID and a Password. It is your responsibility to protect the confidentiality of your User ID and Password because anyone with access to your User ID and Password may access your personal health information. It is your responsibility to change your password if you believe it has been compromised or shared with someone else. You should change your password at least every 180 days. Each time you log into, the system will retain an audit trail of your access.

If you send a request or message through, you can usually expect to receive a response within three business days. In the event your provider is not available when you send your message, your message may be routed to a different provider. If you do not receive a response to your request within three days, contact your provider's office by telephone. Michigan Medicine and its providers or staff may send messages to you through, and when they do, messages will be sent to your personal e-mail account to tell you that you have a message or new information. By providing your personal e-mail account, you agree that we can use your e-mail account and as the primary means of communication. Messages may also be sent to you by or on behalf of Michigan Medicine through or your personal e-mail account to communicate with you for other important reasons, such as asking you to take assigned education lesson(s) or to complete a survey about Michigan Medicine visit(s). Note that you may change your preference about receiving surveys at any time by reviewing the Questionnaires area within the "My Medical Record" section of Messages sent to your personal e-mail account will not include personal health information, but you should be aware that anyone who has access to your personal e-mail account may see the e-mail advising you that you have messages on, or asking you to complete a survey or assigned education materials.

The messages that you send through must only concern you. You may not use to request information or advice about someone else's medical condition. Your messages will become a permanent part of your medical record, so it is important that the messages concern only you. By accessing and using, you agree that you will not use for any purpose except to submit and receive information concerning your own health.

Security and Confidentiality of

Federal and State law govern the confidentiality of medical information. Michigan Medicine is dedicated to keeping your medical information confidential. By allowing you access to your medical information, you must share the responsibility for keeping the information confidential. Michigan Medicine Right to Terminate Access to

In the event that Michigan Medicine discovers that you have shared your access information or that you have misused your privileges, Michigan Medicine may terminate your participation in Michigan Medicine takes no responsibility for and disclaims any and all liability for damages arising from a breach of medical record confidentiality resulting from your sharing or losing your User Id and/or Password. There may be times when the system is not available to you. For example, system maintenance, back-ups or failures may limit availability. Access to is provided on an "as available" basis and you are not guaranteed access at any particular time. Security

Encryption: We use 128 bit Secure Socket layer to encrypt the communication from your web browser to our secure web server.

Dedicated web server for We separate the web server and electronic medical record machines. In the unlikely event that our server is compromised, no health information willbe exposed since it is not saved on the web server. Patient information is stored only in the electronic medical record, behind a firewall.

No caching on the client side: We disable caching of data in the browser and force the web pages to expire immediately. This prevents a follow-on user from viewing pages that you had previously viewed while using

Firewall: Personal health information is stored in the secure electronic medical record, protected from the Internet by a firewall.

Session timeout: After a period of inactivity, the logon session will time out.

Monitoring: We constantly monitor the web server for evidence of unauthorized break-in attempts. We apply the latest security patches, as they become available.

TeleMedicine: The limitations of a telemedicine visit include the possibility of not being able to pick up conditions found during a complete physical exam. There may also be technical difficulties like a lost connection or interruption.

Touch ID and Passcode Functionality: The patients have the ability to set up a touch ID or passcode that lets them log into MyUofMHealth mobile app (patient portal mobile app) easily without having to type the password. This functionality is available on iOS devices and Android devices. Please note that when you enable Touch ID for your portal account on a smart device, other users who have enabled touch ID on that device can log into your portal account and will be able to access your medical record. MyUofMHealth mobile app is also available on Apple Watch.

Automatic Enrollment in Paperless Billing: When you sign up for MyUofM Health, you are also automatically enrolled in paperless billing. You will no longer receive paper statements in the mail unless you opt out of paperless statements. PDF statements are available under the Billing Summary Tab. You can cancel paperless billing and return to receiving paper statements at any time by changing your delivery preference under the Bill Summary tab in the portal: Billing Summary-View Account-Paperless Billing-Update.
